Ordering Guide & Tips

The In-N-Out Burger menu is the shortest menu in American fast food: three burgers, one order of fries, three shake flavours and a fountain — and that is the whole official menu. The Double-Double® is the signature item: two 100% beef patties, two slices of American cheese, lettuce, tomato and spread on a freshly baked bun, 610 calories. Around that short menu sits the Not So Secret Menu — Animal Style®, Protein Style®, the 3×3 and the 4×4 — which this page defines in In-N-Out’s own wording, with the calories In-N-Out itself publishes. One thing this page does not print is prices, because In-N-Out does not publish prices anywhere — the Prices section below states that plainly.

The Menu: Three Burgers, Fries, Shakes, Drinks

In-N-Out’s official menu page lists six lines in total — Double-Double®, Cheeseburger, Hamburger, French Fries, Beverages and Shakes. Nothing on it rotates, nothing is seasonal, and there is no limited-time section. The patties are fresh 100% USDA ground chuck, made in In-N-Out’s own facilities and never frozen — the company states it does not own a freezer or a microwave in any restaurant — and the buns are slow-rising sponge dough, baked fresh.

Burger Build Calories
Double-Double® 2 beef patties, 2 slices of American cheese, lettuce, tomato, spread, with or without onions 610
Cheeseburger 1 beef patty, 1 slice of American cheese, lettuce, tomato, spread, with or without onions 430
Hamburger 1 beef patty, lettuce, tomato, spread, with or without onions — no cheese 360

Every burger is built to order, and the official nutrition table publishes each burger in three builds: the standard build with spread, a build with mustard & ketchup instead of spread, and Protein Style® — wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. The full nine builds, with their official calories, are in the menu on this page and in the Nutrition section below.

The spread is the only sauce. In-N-Out serves one signature sauce — the spread that goes on every burger — and the only alternative the official menu recognises is swapping it for mustard and ketchup. There is no sauce list, no ranch, no barbecue sauce. Extra spread can be added to any burger or to fries on request, and packets of spread are handed out at the counter when you ask.

The Three Numbered Combos

The board numbers three meals, and each one is the same format: a burger, French fries and a medium drink.

Combo Burger Plus
#1 Double-Double® French fries + medium drink
#2 Cheeseburger French fries + medium drink
#3 Hamburger French fries + medium drink

The burger in any combo can be built any way the kitchen builds it — Protein Style®, Animal Style®, extra patties, extra cheese — because the combos are a format, not fixed recipes. Adding a patty or a slice of cheese to a burger is a standard counter request; the official nutrition page carries add-on entries for patties and cheese, even though no prices are published for them anywhere (see Prices, below).

Fries: One Size, Cooked How You Ask

There is exactly one size of fries — a single 125 g serving, 360 calories. In-N-Out publishes no small, medium or large fries, because there are none. The fries are whole potatoes, cut fresh in the store and cooked in 100% sunflower oil.

What you choose is the cook level, not the size:

  • Light — pulled early, softer and paler.
  • Regular — the standard fry, as the kitchen serves it by default.
  • Well-done — left in longer, darker and crisp.

Fries are salted as served; asking for no salt, or for extra salt packets instead, is a standard request. Toppings come from the burger line — spread, grilled onions and melted cheese on fries are the Animal Style Fries build, covered in the Not So Secret Menu section below.

Shakes: Three Flavours, One Size

The shake menu is three flavours — chocolate, vanilla and strawberry — each made with real ice cream and served in one 15 oz size. Chocolate and strawberry are 610 calories; vanilla is 590. There is no fourth flavour and no shake of the month. The fourth name people ask for, the Neapolitan, is a customer mix of the three official flavours swirled in one cup — it is covered with the other customer builds below.

Drinks & Sizes

Fountain drinks come in four sizes — Small 11 oz, Medium 15 oz, Large 22 oz and Extra Large 29 oz, served over ice. The fountain is Coca-Cola® (130 / 180 / 270 / 360 calories by size), Diet Coke® (0 at every size), Cherry Coke®, 7UP®, Dr Pepper® and Barq’s® Root Beer, plus In-N-Out’s Signature Pink Lemonade (150 / 200 / 300 / 400) and Lite Pink Lemonade (5 / 10 / 15 / 15). The full per-size calorie list is in the menu on this page.

The rest of the drinks line is short: unsweetened iced tea (0 calories, served over ice), sweet iced tea in select markets only, coffee (15 oz, 0 calories), decaf coffee, hot cocoa (8 oz, 160 calories — 180 with marshmallows) and milk (10 oz, 160 calories). In-N-Out publishes a separate nutrition entry for decaf but no separate calorie figure for it.

Prices: In-N-Out Does Not Publish Any

There is no official In-N-Out price list. No prices appear on in-n-out.com, none appear on the official location pages, and the company runs no online ordering or app ordering flow where prices could be shown. The price of every item is read off the menu board at the individual store, and boards are set per store — so the same Double-Double® does not carry one published national price.

That is why the price fields on this page are blank, deliberately. The price lists that fill other websites are aggregator compilations, and they contradict each other: on the Double-Double® alone, the aggregator figures checked for this page disagreed by well over a dollar on the same item. Numbers that cannot be verified against the company are not printed here as facts.

Does Animal Style® cost more?In-N-Out publishes no upcharge information for Animal Style® — or for any other customisation — because it publishes no prices at all. Whether a specific store charges for a build is answered by that store’s menu board, not by any official list.
Did In-N-Out prices go up in 2026?No official source can answer that. In-N-Out publishes no current prices and no historical prices, so there is no official figure to compare a 2025 price against. Any “old vs new price” table elsewhere is built from the same unverified aggregator numbers.
How much is a 3×3 or a 4×4?Not published. The stacked burgers are official builds (see the next section), but In-N-Out publishes no price for them, and add-on patty and cheese prices are not published either. The board at your store is the only source.

The Not So Secret Menu

In-N-Out’s own framing, verbatim from its official page: “Ok, you’ve heard the rumors, wondered what was on it, maybe even felt a little left out of the loop. But in reality, we don’t have any secrets at all. It’s just the way some of our customers like their burgers prepared… So here are some of the most popular items on our not-so-secret menu.” The official page lists exactly six items. Each is defined below in the company’s own build wording.

The Six Official Items

  • Double Meat — two 100% beef patties, hand-leafed lettuce, tomato, spread, with or without onions, stacked on a freshly baked bun. No cheese — that is what separates it from the Double-Double®.
  • 3×3 (Triple Triple) — three 100% beef patties, hand-leafed lettuce, tomato, spread, three slices of American cheese, with or without onions, on a freshly baked bun.
  • 4×4 (Quad Quad) — four 100% beef patties, hand-leafed lettuce, tomato, spread, four slices of American cheese, with or without onions, on a freshly baked bun. It is the largest stacked burger In-N-Out lists — the stack stops at four.
  • Grilled Cheese — two slices of melted American cheese, hand-leafed lettuce, tomato, spread, with or without onions, on a freshly baked bun. This is the official meatless burger.
  • Protein Style® — your burger wrapped in hand-leafed lettuce instead of a bun. It applies to any burger on the menu, and it is the one Not So Secret build In-N-Out publishes nutrition for: Hamburger Protein Style® 210 calories, Cheeseburger Protein Style® 280, Double-Double® Protein Style® 460.
  • Animal Style® — a burger of your choice with hand-leafed lettuce, tomato and a mustard-cooked beef patty, with pickle, extra spread and grilled onions added. The mustard-cooked patty is the centre of the build.

Ordering one is a single phrase at the counter or the speaker: name the burger, then the build — “Double-Double Animal Style,” “Cheeseburger Protein Style,” “a 4×4.” The kitchen builds all six from the standard line, which is why the company does not treat them as secrets.

Customer Builds That Are Not on the Official Page

Three more names are ordered constantly, and they are not on In-N-Out’s official Not So Secret Menu page. They are long-standing customer builds made from standard ingredients — the kitchen can make each of them, but the company does not list them, and it publishes no nutrition for any of them:

  • Flying Dutchman — two beef patties with two slices of melted American cheese and nothing else: no bun, no lettuce, no tomato, no spread.
  • Animal Style Fries — French fries topped with melted cheese, spread and grilled onions: the Animal Style toppings moved onto the fries.
  • Neapolitan Shake — chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shake swirled in one cup: a mix of the three official flavours, not a fourth flavour.

More Ways to Order

Beyond the named builds, the customisations the counter takes every day are requests, applied to the standard items:

  • Mustard-fried — the patty cooked in mustard, the method at the centre of Animal Style®. Asked for on its own, it puts the mustard cook on any burger without the rest of the Animal Style build.
  • Onions, four ways — raw, chopped grilled, grilled, or a whole grilled onion slice; burgers come with or without onions as standard, so the choice is always yours to state.
  • Extra toast — the bun toasted longer, for a firmer, crisper bun.
  • Cold cheese — the cheese slice served unmelted.
  • Extra patties and extra cheese — added to any burger on request, up to the 4×4 stack; the official nutrition page carries add-on entries for both.
  • Pup Patty — an unsalted beef patty ordered for a dog. It is a known counter request, not a published menu item: In-N-Out lists no dog menu, and no official price or nutrition exists for it.

Nutrition: The Official Figures

Every calorie figure on this page comes from In-N-Out’s official Nutrition Facts, dated January 2026 — the company’s current published table, matched by its nutrition web page. Figures from older editions of that table still circulate (you will see a 670-calorie Double-Double® on other sites); they are superseded, and they are not used here.

Calories in the Full Burger Line

Item (official build, with onion) Calories
Double-Double® 610
Double-Double® with mustard & ketchup instead of spread 550
Double-Double® Protein Style® 460
Cheeseburger 430
Cheeseburger with mustard & ketchup instead of spread 380
Cheeseburger Protein Style® 280
Hamburger 360
Hamburger with mustard & ketchup instead of spread 300
Hamburger Protein Style® 210
French Fries (125 g) 360
Chocolate Shake (15 oz) 610
Vanilla Shake (15 oz) 590
Strawberry Shake (15 oz) 610
Hot Cocoa (8 oz) 160
Milk (10 oz) 160
Coffee (15 oz) 0

Two patterns in the official table answer most nutrition questions. Protein Style® is the biggest calorie cut on the menu: wrapping the burger in lettuce instead of the bun takes 150 calories off the Hamburger and the Double-Double® alike. Swapping spread for mustard & ketchup is the second cut: 50–60 calories off every burger it is applied to. The official table also publishes the full macro panel — protein, fat, sodium and sugar — for every item on it; this page prints the table’s calorie figures, and the complete panel is in In-N-Out’s official nutrition PDF, linked from its nutrition page.

Combos carry no published totals, because the total moves with the drink. A combo total is a sum of its official components: Combo #1 with a medium Coca-Cola® is 610 (Double-Double®) + 360 (fries) + 180 (medium Coke) = 1,150 calories. Build any other combo the same way from the figures above.

How many calories are in a 3×3, a 4×4 or an Animal Style® burger?In-N-Out does not publish them. The 3×3, the 4×4, Animal Style®, Double Meat and Grilled Cheese appear in no official nutrition table — the Protein Style® builds are the only Not So Secret items with official figures. Calorie numbers for the stacked and Animal Style builds on other websites are third-party estimates; they disagree with each other, and none of them is an In-N-Out figure, so none is printed here.
How many calories are in Animal Style Fries or a Flying Dutchman? Also unpublished. Both are customer builds (see above), and In-N-Out publishes no nutrition for them. Estimates elsewhere are not official figures.

Allergens & Dietary

In-N-Out publishes allergen information per item on its official nutrition page — its nutrition PDF carries the line “Allergen information is available online at In-N-Out.com/nutrition” — and it publishes no separate allergen chart and no gluten-free or vegan certification for anything on the menu. The ingredient facts below are the company’s own:

  • Bun: wheat (gluten). Every standard burger and the Grilled Cheese is served on the wheat bun.
  • Cheese: milk and soy. The American cheese carries both allergens.
  • Spread: egg. The spread is an egg-containing sauce on an oil base — it is why the standard builds are not egg-free.
  • Shakes: milk, with the company’s facility note that they are produced where egg and soy products are present, possibly on the same line or equipment.
  • Burger components carry the company’s facility note: produced in a facility where milk, sesame and soy are present, and possibly on the same line or equipment.
  • Fries: potatoes in 100% sunflower oil — not peanut oil, per the official Food Quality page.
Does In-N-Out have gluten-free options?Nothing on the menu is certified or labelled gluten-free. The wheat-free route that exists in the official data is Protein Style® — the burger wrapped in hand-leafed lettuce instead of the bun. The kitchen is a shared kitchen, so the company makes no cross-contact guarantee; the allergen information for each item is on its official nutrition page.
Does In-N-Out have a veggie burger or a vegan burger? No. There is no veggie burger and no vegan burger on the menu, and no item is published as vegan. The official meatless burger is the Grilled Cheese — cheese, lettuce, tomato and spread on the bun. Beyond that, the meatless builds are fries and the meatless customisations of the standard line; the spread contains egg, the shakes and milk contain dairy, and the bun is a baked wheat bun, so no standard build is a vegan one.
What can a vegetarian order at In-N-Out?The Grilled Cheese from the Not So Secret Menu is the official vegetarian burger. Fries are potatoes cooked in 100% sunflower oil, and the shakes and drinks complete the meatless side of the menu.
Is In-N-Out halal or kosher?In-N-Out publishes no halal or kosher certification for its menu. Nothing on the official site or nutrition pages carries either certification.

Hours

In-N-Out’s hours are chain-wide and come from the company itself — its own opening press releases state them in the same words: all In-N-Out Burger locations are open daily from 10:30 AM to 1:00 AM, and until 1:30 AM on Friday and Saturday. The official location pages print the same schedule per store: Sunday–Thursday 10:30 AM–1:00 AM, Friday–Saturday 10:30 AM–1:30 AM. Late-night is the chain’s format — the 1:00 AM weekday close is the standard, not the exception.

Is In-N-Out open 24 hours? No. No In-N-Out location runs 24 hours. The latest any location stays open is 1:30 AM, on Friday and Saturday nights.

Holidays: In-N-Out publishes no official holiday schedule — there is no holiday page on its site, and holiday hours are not part of its location listings. What is uniformly reported, and corroborated by individual stores’ listed special hours, is that the chain closes on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day; treat those two closures as the chain’s long-standing reported practice, and confirm any holiday — including New Year’s and the summer holidays — on your store’s official location page before you go, because the company publishes nothing stronger. Easter reports conflict with each other across third-party sources, so this page states Easter neither way: the location page for your store is the answer.

The official locator is locations.in-n-out.com — it carries each store’s address, its listed hours and any special hours the store posts. This page covers the chain’s menu and schedule pattern, not individual stores.

Gift Cards

In-N-Out gift cards are physical cards only — the company offers no eGift cards and no printable cards. Cards never expire, and there are no service fees on unused balances. They are sold at any In-N-Out restaurant location and online through the official gift card store the company’s site links to, where physical cards are shipped (Ground, 2-Day or Next-Day) and there is no maximum order amount. Cards are used at restaurant locations and at the company’s retail stores in person; they are not accepted for website or phone merchandise orders.

You can check a gift card balance through two official channels:

  • Online: the official Check Gift Card Balance page (in-n-out.com/gift-cards/check-balance), which routes to the card portal at innoutburger.wgiftcard.com — enter the 16-digit card number and the balance is shown.
  • By phone: cards with a 3-digit PIN cannot be checked online — their balance is given by Customer Service at 800-786-1000.
  • In store: the balance can also be read where the card is used, at any restaurant location.

Deals, Coupons & Rewards

There is nothing to clip. No coupon or promo-code program appears anywhere on In-N-Out’s official site, and the chain runs no rewards or loyalty program — no points, no app offers, no student or birthday discount published by the company. Coupon codes for In-N-Out circulating on coupon sites are not issued by In-N-Out. The chain’s standing value format is the one on the board: the short menu, the combos, and customisations like extra spread and grilled onions taken at the counter.

No Breakfast at In-N-Out

In-N-Out does not serve breakfast. There is no breakfast menu at any location — no breakfast sandwiches, no breakfast hours. The first service of the day is 10:30 AM, and the regular menu — burgers, fries, shakes and drinks — is what is served from the moment the doors open. The 10:30 AM opening is itself the answer to every breakfast question about this chain.

Looking for a specific store? Locations live in the directory and in the official locator on locations.in-n-out.com — this page covers the menu, not individual stores. The Cookout Truck is In-N-Out’s event and catering service, booked separately from the restaurant menu, and it is covered separately from this page.

Need this menu on paper? Print this page from your browser — it prints as the complete In-N-Out Burger menu. In-N-Out also publishes its official nutrition table as a PDF (nutrition_info.pdf) on its nutrition page, for the full calorie and macro panel in the company’s own format.

Menu verified — October 2026. Menu structure and item descriptions are from In-N-Out’s official menu and Not So Secret Menu pages on in-n-out.com. Calories are In-N-Out’s published figures from its official Nutrition Facts dated January 2026. Prices are not shown because In-N-Out does not publish prices — not on its website, not on its location pages, and not through any ordering service; the menu board at your store is the only official price source, and aggregator price lists were not used. Hours are the company’s own published schedule; holiday closures are reported practice, as the Hours section states.
